Map of the LGBTQIA Resource Center

1. Front and Side Entrances

The LGBTQIA Resource Center has two entrances: one located in the main lobby of the Student Community Center and a more private side entrance across from the SCC Reflection Room.

2. Front Desk

Here you will find useful information on Davis, UC Davis and Yolo County resources! We also make and give out free buttons – please take one! The 2008 Queer People of Color Conference Art Piece which was created by students is also found at the front desk!

3. Front Lounge

In this area, students can hang out, play video games on our Super Nintendo and Wii, and study. Here you will find a photo of the old center – we love to remember our roots! The previous center was 500 sq. ft. and the new center is 3400 sq. ft! The Queer People of Color Heroes wall display is also found here where we highlight important community figures that have contributed greatly and recognize intersectionality.

4. Library

The Angelina Malfitano Memorial Collection is the center’s library with over 1500 books, DVDs and VHS tapes.

Angelina Malfitano was active on campus in a wide range of activities and brought her value for promoting social justice to all of them. She was one of the Student Assistants to the Chancellor in 2005-2006. She served as a Community Intern at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center in 2004-2005. She was the chair of the ASUCD Gender and Sexuality Commission in 2003-2004 and a presenter at the 2006 undergraduate research conference. She had many passions but one that stood out was Safe Zone training. She partnered in revamping the training itself as well as making it more visible on campus. Angelina passed away tragically in a car accident on May 30, 2006. Her death impacted many people on campus, in the community, and across the nation. The Angelina Malfitano award given each spring to an undergraduate student, that includes $500, is made possible by her parents Roberta Baumgardner and Vince Malfitano.

5. Main Lounge

The Main Lounge has many beautiful pieces. The Trans Queer-os wall celebrates several Trans* Folks that have made valuable contributions towards Trans* Awareness. Across this display you will see the computers that are available for anyone to use during business hours. Above those computers are the student organization lockers where these groups can store their event and meeting items, as needed. Above those lockers you will see various pride flags for the many identities we seek to create awareness for. To the right of these is the BlaQ (Black and Queer) artists biography wall created by a past community coordinator! You will also see the “Words That Are Transphobic” and “Words That Are Biphobic” posters that address some commonly used and overall hurtful words and statements in hopes of creating change.

6. Kitchen

The kitchen is open for anyone and is a community space. We have a fridge, a microwave, cups, plates and napkins!

7. Community Coordinator Area

The Community Coordinator work area (formerly known as the intern work area) is a space primarily for our scholar staff to work on their events and programs.
