Lavender Graduation

Lavender Graduation is a vibrant and inclusive community celebration that honors the achievements of UC Davis graduates who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community. This event is not a substitute for UC Davis’s formal commencement ceremonies, but rather an additional opportunity to recognize and uplift the identities, journeys, and accomplishments of our graduating scholars.

Rooted in tradition and resilience, Lavender Graduation creates a space for graduates to celebrate their achievements alongside their peers, loved ones, and allies. It is a time to reflect on the challenges overcome, the impact made, and the bright futures ahead while celebrating the unique contributions of LGBTQIA+ students to the UC Davis community.

If you identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, genderqueer, gender nonconforming, nonmonosexual, asexual, intersex, queer, same-gender-loving, two-spirit, or hold any other identity within the LGBTQIA+ spectrum, this event is for you. Let’s come together to honor your journey and celebrate this significant milestone!

Angelina Malfitano Award

Angelina Malfitano was deeply involved in campus life and dedicated to promoting social justice through her many roles. She served as one of the Student Assistants to the Chancellor during the 2005-2006 academic year and as a Community Intern at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center in 2004-2005. Angelina also chaired the ASUCD Gender and Sexuality Commission from 2003-2004 and was a presenter at the 2006 Undergraduate Research Conference.

Among her many passions, one of her most notable contributions was her work on allyship and Safe Zone training. She played a key role in revamping the program and increasing its visibility on campus, leaving a lasting impact. Tragically, Angelina passed away in a car accident on May 30, 2006. Her loss was profoundly felt by the campus community, as well as by those who knew her locally and nationwide.
