The LGBTQIA Resource Center invites UC Davis students, staff, and faculty to commemorate Trans Day of Remembrance on November 20th from 11am-1pm. TDoR is part of Trans Action Week (November 17-21), a full week of programs centering trans identities. Arrive early to make a sign and add to the trans memorial altar before marching through campus. Stay tuned for more information about Trans Action Week. This program centers the experiences of transgender students, though any member of the UC Davis community is welcome to attend. This includes students, staff, and faculty.
About TDOR: Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR) began in 1999 when transgender advocate and writer Gwendolyn Ann Smith founded a vigil to honor Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was murdered the previous year. The first TDoR vigil was held in San Francisco and Boston. Since its inception, TDoR has evolved into an international day of action, observed annually on November 20 to memorialize those murdered due to transphobia and to raise awareness about the ongoing violence and discrimination faced by the transgender community.
