Crisis Care & Support Hotlines

Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room (options in Davis) if you are an immediate danger to yourself or others, or if you are in need of immediate medical attention.

UC Davis Crisis Care

There are several crisis support options available for UC Davis students. 

  • Phone: Call Counseling Services if you are in crisis 530-752-0871
    • After hours support is available by calling the same line and following the prompts, and you will be connected with a trained counselor. 
  • Text: Reach the crisis text line by texting Relate to 741741
    • Crisis Text Line is a free, immediate and confidential texting service for UC Davis students in crisis, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Text RELATE to 741741 from anywhere in the U.S. to text with a trained volunteer crisis counselor. This service is also available in Spanish.
  • In person: You can request a crisis appointment by calling Counseling Services at 530-752-0871 and asking for a crisis appointment.
    • Or you can walk in to the Acute Care Clinic during business hours at the Student Health and Wellness Center and ask for a crisis appointment. 

 

LGBTQIA Support Lines

These toll-free lines are staffed by either trained LGBTQIA youth or adults, or by trained youth or adults that are LGBTQ friendly.

Trevor Project

  • Text START to 678-678 or call 1-866-488-7386 to reach a Trevor counselor who is understanding of LGBTQ issues and won’t judge you. Your conversation will be anonymous, and you can share as much or as little as you like.
  • The Trevor Project’s mission is to end suicide among LGBTQ young people.

LGBTQI+ Specialized Services at the 988 Lifeline

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is committed to inclusive mental health support for all. Specialized LGBTQI+ services are available nationwide for youth and young adults to connect with a skilled, compassionate counselor 24/7 via text, call, and chat.

  • Call 1-877-565-8860 to reach the Trans Hotline 24/7. Trans Lifeline’s Hotline is a peer support phone service run by trans people for our trans and questioning peers. Call us if you need someone trans to talk to, even if you’re not in a crisis or if you’re not sure you’re trans.

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Helpline

  • Call 1-800-662-HELP (4357) to reach SAMHSA’s National Helpline, which is a confidential, free, 24/7 information service, in English and Spanish, for individuals and family members facing mental and/or substance use disorders. This service provides referrals to local treatment facilities, support groups, and community-based organizations.
