Description of locations
1,5: Main and Side Entrance
Our center has two entrances that remain open during our business hours: one in the main lobby of the Student Community Center, and a more private side entrance across from the SCC Reflection Room.
2: Front Desk
Our volunteers are available at the front desk to provide you with useful information about the center and its resources. Ask for a tour if it is your first time here! We also provide free scantrons and blue books.
3: Front Lounge
This area is available for students to hang out. We have a Super Nintendo and Wii, as well as various games. Our Queeros Wall above the TV represents queer people of color and their contributions to society. On its left, a traditional altar commemorates the deaths of black queer and trans folx. Free menstrual and sexual health products are available near the library.
4: Library
Our Angelina Malfitano Memorial Collection contains over 1500 books, DVDs, comics, zines, and more, that can be checked out for a period of two weeks. We renamed our collection after Angelina Malfitano, a former student assistant to the Chancellor and proud member of the community. She tragically passed away in 2006, which impacted many people.
6: Community Counselor
The center has its own Community Advising Network (CAN) Counselor. Our counselor is available at the center for consultations regarding mental health issues, personalized referrals, and support with accessing services.
7: QT Pantry
The QT Pantry is run through a collaboration with the ASUCD Pantry to address food insecurity within marginalized communities. The pantry has a small selection of dry and canned food available for all students. You are welcome to take what you need! We also have free fresh produce delivered weekly from the student farm.
8: Kitchen
The kitchen is a community space for anyone to use. A fridge, microwave, freezer, sink, water boiler, toaster, and cups are available.
9: Gender Affirmation Closet
The Gender Affirmation Closet is a resource for Trans and Gender Nonconforming folks, who can find free clothing, accessories, make-up, and shapewear. It remains open during business hours and is available for anyone to take as much or little as they want. This closet exists to help people who have a hard time finding places where they can shop comfortably due to discrimination or financial difficulty.
10: Community Coordinator Area
This space is reserved for our scholar staff to work on their events and programs.
11: Main Lounge
Our main area is available for anyone during our business hours, for studying, relaxing, and socializing. Students are free to use the computer and the charging station. A large whiteboard calendar provides an overview of the activities and events occurring during the month, which will usually take place in this area. Various pride flags are hanging by the windows, to create awareness for the many identities in our community.
